Transition is the process of changing from one state to another, propelling us into the unknown. We evolve into richer and more complex human beings as a result.
In 2014 I went through a major transition, retiring from a teaching job that I loved, while leaving behind a warm community of friends, colleagues and students. I was proud of my art department accomplishments and continue to be interested in the education of young artists, but I knew it was time to go. I knew I needed to nudge myself, to once again make being an artist my top priority.
We all live in a state of flux, constantly on the move as we transition from one phase of our lives to the next. With an appreciation of our past, living in the present, and looking ahead to the future, we never finish defining who we are. As a working artist, I’m happy to be in this fluid state.
